Definition
Put simply, digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use (Ribble, 2014). It is the combination of technical and social skills that equip a person to be successful and safe in the information age. Educators agree that becoming a good digital citizen is critical in today’s world, but they also know that the topic is a massive one. This site has organized the nine elements of digital citizenship around three themes to make it both comprehensive and manageable for educators. These are: Respect and Protect Yourself – Digital Well Being, Respect and Protect Others – Digital Interactions and Respect and Protect Intellectual Property and Other Property – Digital Preparedness (Alberta Education, 2012). |
